Terms & Conditions
The rules that govern access to and use of Postilae.
Last updated
Welcome to Postilae. These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Postilae application and website at postilae.com (the "Service"), operated by Simona-Alexandra Ursache in Romania ("we", "us", "our").
By creating an account, installing, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who can use Postilae
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If the minimum age that applies to you is higher, that higher age applies. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you confirm that you have the permission of a parent or legal guardian where that permission is required.
2. What Postilae is
Postilae is a reading workspace: it lets you read PDF, EPUB, and DOCX files, take notes and highlights, organize books and reading sessions, and connect your reading to written projects and ideas.
Postilae is currently offered free of charge.
You can explore the Service without an account, but nothing is normally retained unless you create one. Work in an unauthenticated session is lost when you close or reload the app. If you deliberately begin creating an account, Postilae temporarily places a same-tab handoff copy in browser session storage so your current work can survive the authentication redirect. That handoff expires within 24 hours, is not uploaded before authentication and passphrase setup, and is removed when signup is completed, rejected, or expires.
3. Accounts
To retain books, highlights, notes, projects, or reading sessions, you need to create an account with a name and an email address. The name does not need to be your legal name, but the email address must be one you control because it is used for account access and communications you choose to receive.
You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity under your account.
One account per person. You may not share your account credentials with others or use another person's account without permission.
4. Your content
Your books, highlights, notes, projects, and any other content you create or upload ("Your Content") belong to you. We claim no ownership over them.
You give us only the limited permission needed to store, synchronize, back up, and display Your Content back to you while providing the Service. We do not use Your Content to train AI models, for advertising, or for sharing with third parties unless you explicitly request a feature that requires it, such as an export or provider-backed action.
You're responsible for Your Content and for making sure you have the right to store and annotate material you upload, including files you own, have legally obtained, or may lawfully read and annotate.
5. Temporary use and your sync passphrase
Without an account, books, highlights, and notes exist only for the current page session and are lost when you close or reload it. The sole exception begins only after you actively start account creation: a temporary same-tab handoff is kept in browser session storage for up to 24 hours. It is not synchronized before authentication and passphrase setup and is deleted after successful transfer, a rejected signup attempt, or expiry.
With an account, supported workspace data is encrypted on your device using a passphrase you choose before it is saved to the account-scoped offline cache or synchronized to the encrypted Lovable Cloud snapshot. The PDF, EPUB, and DOCX source-file bytes you attach stay on that device and are not included in the synchronized snapshot. We do not store your passphrase and cannot recover, reset, or use it to decrypt your workspace. Losing it means permanently losing access to the retained workspace data.
6. Connected catalogues and Internet Archive
Postilae can search connected third-party catalogues and can let you read eligible books through the Internet Archive's lending library. These features are conveniences that you choose to request. Third-party content and services remain subject to the relevant provider's terms and rules, not ours. We are not the publisher, rights holder, or lender of that content and are not responsible for its availability, accuracy, or continued access.
7. Future email news and feedback
Postilae does not currently send a newsletter, and no newsletter provider has been selected. We may offer a separate, optional choice to receive occasional product news if that capability is launched. Agreeing is not a condition of creating or keeping an account.
We will not send marketing email without your explicit, separate opt-in. You can withdraw a recorded opt-in at any time from account settings without affecting the rest of your account or the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are reviewed privately and may be used to improve Postilae. We will not publish your name, words, or feedback as a quote or testimonial without your separate, explicit consent.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for an unlawful purpose or to store or distribute content you don't have the right to store or distribute;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another user's account or data or to the Service's underlying systems;
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the Service, including through scraping, automated abuse, or attempts to bypass rate limits;
- Reverse-engineer the Service except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
9. Intellectual property
The Postilae name, logo, design, and underlying code, excluding Your Content, are our property or that of our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not give you rights to our branding or code beyond what is needed to use the Service as intended.
10. Service availability and mandatory consumer rights
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We try to keep it reliable but do not promise uninterrupted, error-free, or permanent availability. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, with reasonable notice where practical.
If you use Postilae as a consumer, you retain every mandatory right and remedy available under applicable consumer law, including rights concerning conformity, remedies, and updates for digital services where those rules apply. These Terms do not replace, exclude, or waive those rights.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service, including loss caused by an unsaved temporary session, a forgotten passphrase, or interruption of a third-party service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, rights, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct where applicable.
12. Ending your account
You may delete your account at any time from My account, including while the encrypted workspace is locked. This permanently removes your authentication account, profile, encrypted synchronized workspace, Postilae's encrypted browser cache, unlock key, and app-managed attached-file copies. Files and backups you exported outside Postilae remain under your control and are not affected.
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, with notice where reasonably possible and subject to any mandatory rights that apply.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will make a reasonable effort to notify account holders, for example by email or an in-app notice, before the changes take effect. Continued use after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms, except where applicable law requires another form of agreement.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Romanian law. If you are a consumer who habitually resides in another country, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of that country. Romanian courts have jurisdiction subject to any mandatory right you have to bring or defend proceedings before another competent court under applicable law.
